Annealed Glass vs. Plexiglass
What's the difference between the two?
In reality you may think that Plexiglass is cheaper and a better option than regular glass. Plexiglass may in fact be a better option depending on what you're looking to do with it. Plexiglass however is more expensive. Plexiglass is stronger and more shatter resistant than regular glass, therefor making it more expensive than glass.
Plexiglass is clear acrylic or a hard plastic. It is petroleum-based. Plexiglass is more resistant to weathering and erosion. In the long run, long-term maintenance and replacement costs may be significantly cheaper. Plexiglass is easier to scratch as it is softer than glass. Plexiglass is also lighter than glass while still offering many of the same options that glass does. Plexiglass is also easier for shape cuts. Recycling does become more difficult and potentially more expensive than glass.
Plexiglass uses:
*Window Panes
*Greenhouse Glass
*Craft Projects
*Display Cases
*Shelving
Glass is a solid, an inorganic compound that cooled from a liquid to solid without passing through a crystalline state. Glass is brittle and composed primarily of silicas. Glass reflects more light than plexiglass surfaces. While glass can be cut easily, it is more difficult to cut shapes out of glass. Glass however is easier to recycle.
Glass uses:
*Tabletop Glass
*Window Panes
*Picture Frames
*Cabinet Glass
*Shelving
